Ulley Reservoir Family Walk - 20th September

Posted 20/9/2015

Our start for this walk was delayed by 15 minutes, thanks to the walk leader being on the last push and parking at the start point being in short supply.  Nevertheless, our party of twelve adults, five walking youngsters and two carried infants eventually got started from Ulley Country Park Visitors Centre.  Crossing the reservoir wall and following a path alongside the upper extent of the reservoir, we left the waterside onto a path through woodland and opening into broad meadows.  Our path followed alongside a stream to a junction of paths with the ancient, steeply ascending bridleway of Stocket Lane.

The bridleway opened out onto a road, which we followed for about a quarter of a mile into Ulley Village.  Here, we stopped for refreshments at the lovely Royal Oak Pub, where the outdoor benches, cheap prices and children's play area buoyed our party's spirits.  Continuing past Ulley Church we then picked up a path between houses into a descending meadow, bringing us down onto a path we'd walked earlier.  We retraced our steps back through woodland to the reservoir, walking back down the opposite side before crossing a road bridge and returning to the start point.

The weather was again kind - dry, warm but not stifling - and the walk seemed to be enjoyed by all.  Thanks and well done to all who participated.
