Lake District Weekend 2020

Posted 4/9/2019

Following the success of 2019’s Lake District Weekend, Dearne Valley Walking Group will be reprising the trip in 2020, running from Friday 8th May to Sunday 10th May. This is due to the May Day Bank Holiday being moved to Friday 8th May 2020.

As with 2019’s trip, we will be basing ourselves in Keswick and will be organising a walk on each day with these following the same format as before. The Friday walk will be a fairly flat, leisurely walk of around 9 to 10 miles with the Saturday walk planned to be a strenuous ascent of Blencathra and the Sunday being a short 4 to 5 mile walk before we return home.

More definite arrangements will be announced nearer the time but an outline of the current schedule is as follows:

Friday 8th May – Catch the bus from Keswick to Seatoller and walk back via Rosthwaite and Grange which will give several options to stop along the way for refreshments.

Saturday 9th May – Catch the bus from Keswick to Threlkeld and ascend Blencathra via Scales Fell and then descend Blencathra to walk back into Keswick which will be a total distance of around 10 miles and a total ascent of around 3800 feet.

Sunday 10th May – A 4.5 mile circular walk from Keswick via the villages of Applethwaite and Millbeck.

There is no obligation to participate in all 3 walks but we ask that everyone who is intending making the trip lets us know they are attending, along with an indication of which walks they intend taking part in. Accommodation will need to be booked by the individual(s) as DVWG will not be arranging accommodation for this trip.

We will look to arrange a group meal on as many evenings as possible over the weekend so we would also like an indication of which, if any, evening people would like to be included in the booking.  More information regarding the meals and other arrangements will be circulated nearer the time.

We hope as many people as possible will join us and that the trip will be as enjoyable as this year’s!
