Saltaire 2 in 1 Walk - February 1st

Posted 3/2/2020

An early start for DVWG, meeting at Fitzwilliam Station and travelling by train to Saltaire.

Sir Titus Salt’s model village never disappoints, for several of our party were visiting for the first time and were suitably impressed with the splendour of the village.

We set off along the towpath of the Leeds Liverpool canal, which is quite picturesque too, quickly reaching Bingley and 5 Rises Lock, a feat of canal engineering where there were some wonderful views down into Bingley in the hazy winter sunshine.

After a coffee break we continued on, splitting with our party for the short walk, aka the Powell family who were heading for Crossflatts, while we continued.

Unfortunately there was a rail incident at Steeton station, with no trains running there, this resulted in us changing plans and heading for Keighley Station, leaving the towpath at East Riddlesdon Hall to head to Keighley Station where we saw a steam locomotive from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway setting off.

Well done and thank you to the 20 people who attended this 7.1 and 3.7 miles walk, congratulations to David Kirk who notched up 2500 miles walked with DVWG on this walk.
