Huntsman Hobble - January 3rd

Posted 3/1/2021
Wintry conditions for DVWGs first walk of 2021 at Thurlstone this morning.
There had been no snow overnight and indeed the snow had thawed somewhat but setting off from Thurlstone up High Bank we quickly encountered blizzard conditions as we edged onto Royd Moor.
We quickly made the decision that the walk should be shortened to be a route around Royd Moor and scout Dyke reservoirs, however we could not do this either due to ice on a steep TPT which made the path impassible.
Not to be heated we walked a full lap of Royd Moor Reservoir looking for an exit path into the village only to finish up at the dam wall again.
After a quick coffee stop we took the route along the Penistone Boundary Walk behind Scout Dyke Reservoir which was extremely muddy to reach Thurlstone Top of Town where we descended to Manchester Road and the end of our walk.
Thank you to everyone who came along today on this wintry 5.95 miles walk.
