Venue change for the Turkish night

Posted 19/12/2017

Please would all our participants note that have taken the decision to move our Turkish Social to The Lemon Tree in Peel Square, Barnsley.  Some of our participants had a disappointing Christmas function at our previous venue and called into question their ability to handle large parties.  As such a new venue close by has been agreed upon.

Please see the Events page or downloadable diaries for updated info and if you wish to attend, please let me know on to confirm your place.

Adult Presentation Night - July 7th

Posted 9/7/2017

Our adult presentation night was held at the George & Dragon in Wentworth and was a well attended evening of delicious food, chat, beer and prize giving at the end of another busy season for DVWG.

Our season has seen over 5000 miles walked by our adults and following the meal, medals were presented to the people who completed the Peddars Way walk in May 2017 as well as our seasonal 100 mile walkers, cumulative 500 and 1000 mile walkers were rewarded too.

Over the season the main prizes in DVWGs Club Championship were awarded to:

1st - Steve Pennock

2nd - Liz Davis

3rd - Diana Walker.

A presentation was also made to Amanda Bennett, who received flowers and Prosecco as a thank you from the group for her endeavours as Socials Officer over the last three years, Amanda has sadly opted to stand down from her position.

The night finished with one of the longest raffle draws in history due to a bumper haul of raffle prizes being donated by our regular walkers, our club sponsors Allied Glass and by Barnsley's Tesco store. Thank you to all who generously donated prizes.

Whilst the prizes did nothing to dispel the myth that DVWG is a thinly disguised drinking group, our games raised a total of £108 on the night.  A big thanks to all who attended our presentation night and donated generously.

Now that the end of season celebrations are over, the serious business of another years walking has already begun, therefore we look forward to seeing all our regular walkers on a walk with us again soon.

Junior Presentation Day - 25th June

Posted 25/6/2017

We met up at Adwick village hall today, for barbecued burgers and bangers in the blazing sunshine, albeit with a bit of breeze.  Party games aplenty, a marathon raffle and a hearty feed made for another smashing DVWG day out.  Certificates, plaques, trophies and shields were duly handed out to our proud contingent of junior walkers and a good time was had by all.

Well done to Emily Kirk and Rhys Powell, who walked furthest in their respective age groups but also to all our young participants, who between them racked up a record breaking total mileage this year.

Many thanks to all who attended and particularly to those who volunteered their time to cook, serve, clean up and otherwise organise this event.  We hope to see you all on next season's programme of family walks and hope to make it another great year.
